PICTURE IT WELL: feather your nest

The spring season is all about creation, transformation, and expression of the new. Seeds sprouting, birds nesting, and budding vegetation are everywhere. It’s a resurrection of sorts. The current global situation plays right into it. Something new is afoot. And it’s coming from us.

I am seeing creative expression everywhere.

Like distilleries now making much-needed hand-sanitizer and a woman who changed her catering business into meals for the home-bound. I know a personal trainer who is posting free daily workouts on utube and a passionate woman who has been in the news for leading the campaign in Seattle to make surgical masks. My football coach brother-in-law is learning how to be a beekeeper. And what about all of the on-line self-help bloggers offering free counseling on how to quell anxiety. Examples like these are happening across our country and around the world. (Who hasn’t seen the Italians in lock-down singing together on their balconies?)

You might not be in the position to do something as grand as some of these people, but you can tap into spring’s propelling energy and begin to feather your own nest. Birth something new. Many of us are sheltering at home now. So why not retreat a bit to create? See your home as a sanctuary during this tumultuous time—a place to find clarity, comfort, and space for new ideas to blossom.

Please know that I’m not suggesting you ignore the pandemic, it’s the opposite. I’m suggesting you accept where you are in this crisis, slow down and think about what you want to change and get on with your life in a new way. The idea is to tap into your creative energy so this time becomes meaningful and evolving for you. You can start by asking yourself, What do I want? And no matter how big or small it will bring a new kind of energy into your being.

It’s an inward journey, too. For me, I know that I am going to come through this feeling different about life. I already do. I am moving through my fear, practicing patience, accepting what is, being open to change, feeling so much compassion, admiration, and affection for my fellow humans, and most of all, learning to live with uncertainty.

Wishing much peace to all and be well!
