Simple cleansing pleasures of fall

I’ve written a lot about fall throughout the years. Mostly because it’s my favorite time of the year. I love the season’s stunning transitional beauty and I’m drawn to its natural cleansing energy. It’s a time to let go, clear out, drop whatever is not working, and begin to turn inward toward new beginnings.

If you’re like me, during the past few months you’ve learned that LESS is not so hard and even best on so many levels. Our to-do lists are shorter and calendars more spacious. We have more clarity about our life visions. We are living life in meaningful new ways despite the pandemic.

I still worry about the future. So many unknowns. But I’m getting better at detaching from this worry—trusting that it will all work out. And now that fall is here I’m more excited than worried—it’s such a stunning season—beauty and surrender in all its glory.

In so many pleasurable ways we can all tap into fall’s wondrous transitional energy. Leisurely walks or hikes through a forest or large urban park will shift you into a carefree mindset. Crackling leaves under your boots, pungent earth smells, and a glorious canopy of color overhead will help you shed worrisome and uneasy feelings.

Summer-like fall days are energetically powerful, as well. Cool mornings, brilliant skies, warm days, and the mellow glow of late afternoon sun will slip you into a gentle space of self-nourishing thoughts about love, gratitude, and what truly matters. At times it can feel like an alternate reality.

Try sitting quietly or meditating in a scenic spot and let the powerful energy from the solid earth, brilliant colors, fresh air, and sweet smells embrace you. In just five minutes you’ll get a surge of immune boosting benefits.

Simple activities like these on a regular basis throughout the fall will bring you much clarity. Soon you will know what you love about your life and what needs to change.

I’m going to try to get outside as much as I can on these magical days—I hope you do too.

As fall moves toward winter, the season’s coolness and bare trees signal the beginning of an inward journey. Both in our homes and in our hearts. A time to plant our seeds of intention and move indoors to the comfort of our homes.

I always love this inward transition. In our home it’s all about cozy evenings of scratch soups, wool throws, flickering candles, long talks, and reflective journaling. Don’t get me wrong…it’s not all quiet contemplation—we have our favorite binge-watch shows that seem to amp up in the cold months. However, no matter what we do, I think it’s especially important during this particular fall season to take advantage of its purifying energy.

One last thought…My heartfelt belief is that despite all of the upheaval and uncertainty in our world right now, we are all very powerful beings fully capable of moving on, and living our lives with passion and meaning.

Happy fall everyone!
